Charity Golf Day for Children with Leukaemia
Grafton International held their first Charity Golf Day on Wednesday 26th September. The venue was the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales, which is set in 1400 acres of parkland in the Usk valley and will be host of the 2010 Ryder Cup. Thirty guests from companies in the health and beauty industry attended, including EMAP, Garden Pharmacy, Euro Cosmetics Ltd, and Richards & Appleby to name but a few.
Greeted by the smell of bacon sandwiches, everyone grabbed a spot of breakfast before moving onto the golf course. Groups of four teed off at staggered times with some choosing to travel by golf buggy and other braving the sunny, but very chilly weather conditions on foot. Guests played 18 holes on the Roman Road course, which has previously hosted the All Star cup in 2005 and 2006, attended by celebrities such as Catherine Zeta Jones, Michael Douglas, Ronan Keating, Jane Seymour and Chris Evans.
Later that evening after a long day on the golf course, guests were served a delicious three course meal in the Via Julia Suite. Entertainment was provided by UK Comedian of the Year 2000, Russ Williams, who performed a hilarious stand up routine and also hosted the raffle and auction. Auctioned items were donated by Carlsberg, Element Gifts, and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
The evening provided a great opportunity for guests to network with like minded people from the same industry. It also gave everyone a chance to chat about the days events, and to exchange stories about their good (and bad!) form on the course.
The whole day proved to be a great success with a total of £2000 being raised for the charity. Everyone that attended thoroughly enjoyed themselves and John Mills of Euro Cosmetics said ‘My golf didn’t live up to the course, the company and the overall ambience of the day. Superb effort, great, well done to everyone involved’.
