Graftons support local hospice in sponsored charity walk

Following the success of last years sponsored bike ride to raise money for the Association of Guide Dogs for the Blind, Graftons decided that for this year’s annual charity fundraiser we would undertake a 13km hike to raise money for St Giles Hospice.

The St Giles Hospice is local to Graftons Head Office in Tamworth who offers medical and nursing care for people with cancer and other serious illnesses as well as providing support for their families and helpers.

So on 23rd June, Grafton employees along with their family and friends donned their waterproofs and walking boots to embark on the 13km trek around Kingsbury Country & Water Park in Warwickshire. Each walker wore something green, to symbolise the official colour that represents St Giles. 

For the weeks leading up to the day of the walk, the course had been hit by severe flooding from all the torrential non–stop rainfall the county had encountered, so at one point it was doubtful that the walk could even go ahead. However, the clouds did eventually part and the rain stopped.

After walking for nearly three hours and wading through the flooded grounds, we arrived at the finish to be greeted with a well deserved BBQ; a chance to rest our feet and catch our breaths.

After the blisters had healed, copious amount of Gena Intensive Crème had been used and the sponsorship money was collected and counted, it was revealed that we had raised a massive £4,033!

Several weeks later, the cheque showing the total amount we had raised was proudly presented to a St Giles Hospice representative, who was overwhelmed with our efforts and extremely grateful for the support that we have given to them, to help them continue in their hard work by providing care to the sick.

We had a great day that was enjoyed by all! Roll on next years charity fundraising event!
