Graftons support Cancer Research cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats (without leaving the office)

Following the success of last year’s sponsored charity walk to raise money for St Giles Hospice, Graftons decided that for this year’s charity fundraiser we would cycle the 835 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK relies on the energies and initiative of fundraisers at work, school and in the community to continue their world class research, so during the week of 9th June 2008, Graftons employees began their mammoth task — without even leaving the office!

We set up two exercise bikes in our offices and took it in turns to cycle as far as we could in our time slots. Competition was fierce as we’d been put into teams with prizes up for grabs for the furthest distance travelled. There were some really impressive efforts, but for most of us we were grateful for a glass of orange squash and a cool down when we’d finished!

Everyone was kept up to date with where we were on the map and enjoyed regional delicacies every day to help us feel like we were really there. This must have worked because we did so well we decided to cycle all the way back again totalling an astounding 1670 miles

Despite extremely sore bottoms and aching limbs, it all seemed worth it as it was revealed that we had raised a whopping £4,300 for this extremely worthwhile cause.

Everyone at Graftons would like to say a huge thank you to friends, family and industry colleagues who generously sponsored us and helped to raise a significant amount of money which will make a huge difference to the efforts of Cancer Research UK.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had quite a few giggles along the way — we can’t wait to see what the challenge is next year!
